Manual imaging administration
The manual imaging feature allows you to download documents from Nuix Discover, create image files of the documents using a third-party tool, and then upload the image files back into the application.
Enable the manual imaging feature
To enable the manual imaging feature, administrators must grant users access to the following manual imaging options:
Processing - Imaging - Automated
Processing - Imaging - Manual
For information about how to enable imaging features, and a description of the places where imaging features appear, see Work with security for features.
Define the file export destination for manual imaging
To define the location that the application downloads files to be manually imaged:
On the Case Home page, under Manage Documents, click Imaging.
On the Imaging - Automated page, click Settings.
On the Common page, in the File export destination list at the bottom of the page, select the name of your file transfer repository.
Click Save.
The application downloads documents to this file repository for manual imaging.
Download files for manual imaging
When you initiate a manual imaging job, the application exports the files that were submitted for the job. A message appears in the processing window when the documents are ready for download.
You can locate the exported .zip files in the following ways:
Files are saved in the file export destination location that is specified in the Imaging - Automated > Settings window.
Download the exported .zip file on the Manage Documents > Imaging - Manual page.
After you download files, you can create image files of them using a third-party tool, and then upload the files back into the application.
Download exported .zip files
To download exported .zip files for manual images:
On the Imaging - Manual page, select the check box next to the manual imaging job, and then click Download files.
The Use Aspera for faster data transfer option appears when integration with Aspera is configured and enabled. If you select this option, and the required plug-in is not installed on your computer, a dialog box appears with instructions and a link to the Aspera Connect download page. After installing the plug-in, you must close and re-open your browser.
To add a password to protect and encrypt your .zip file before you download it, select the Password protect the file check box and enter a password.
To create a .zip file of the downloaded files, click Compress files for download.
Note: Using compression takes extra time. The download starts sooner when files are not compressed.
Click View size to view a total count of the selected items.
Click OK.
The data is downloaded as a .zip file to the Downloads folder on the local hard drive. For downloads performed using Aspera Connect, to show the download progress, the Aspera Transfers dialog box opens in addition to the Processing items window.
Caution: Keep the processing window open until the download completes. Otherwise, you will terminate any uploads and downloads in progress.
Upload manually imaged documents
After you create image files of documents using a third-party tool, you can upload the manually imaged files back into the application.
Adhere to the following rules to ensure that the application can correctly identify and upload the files:
Imaged files must have one of the following file extensions: .pdf, .tif, .tiff, .jpg, or .jpeg.
Imaged files must be named with the Doc ID followed by a hyphen, followed by a 5-digit page number. The page numbers of documents that have multiple pages must be sequential and cannot skip numbers.
Imaged files must be added to a .zip file prior to upload in the application.
For manual uploads, Nuix Discover supports the following:
Single-page .tiff or .jpeg documents
Multi-page PDF documents
Note: Nuix Discover does not support single-page PDF documents for manual uploads.
Note: You do not have to upload image files for all of the documents that are exported in a download job in a single upload. Upload jobs can contain images for any number of documents from one or more download jobs.
To upload manually imaged files:
On the Manage Documents > Imaging - Manual page, click Upload.
In the Upload dialog box, do one of the following:
To upload a .zip file from a local drive, select File source and then click Browse to select the specific file location. If a password is needed to unzip the contents of the file, select File is password protected and in the Password box, type the password. When the upload is finished, the password is used to extract the archive.
To upload a .zip file from a file transfer repository, select File repository. Then, select the location where the file is stored using the Repository and Folder lists. For more information on selecting files from a file transfer repository, see File repositories.
Click OK.
The application extracts image files from the .zip file and ensures that there are no gaps or other errors in the file names. The application updates any documents that meet the validation criteria. Any validation failures are reported on the Errors page for the upload job. To view the Errors page, on the Manage Documents > Imaging - Manual page, click a link for an upload job.
