Work with servers

System administrators use the Servers page to manage the following servers:

Database servers: Host the SQL Server database for cases.

Analysis servers: The SQL Server analysis servers used for data analysis. Adding an analysis server is optional, but required if you use analysis features, such as mines and cubes.

Before creating a case, the system administrator must configure at least one database server. You can also add one or more analysis servers.

View existing servers

To view existing servers:

On the Portal Home page, under Portal Management, click Cases and Servers.

In the navigation pane, click Servers. The icon to next to the server name indicates the status of the server. Hover over the icon to view information about the status.

Important: When upgrading the application, the database server might be invalid if it is missing the SQL Server System Administrator credentials. The credentials must be entered before adding, editing, or cloning a case. Once entered, the database server becomes valid and no longer editable.

Add a server

When adding a server, the application requires that a system administrator enter all configuration information so that portal administrators can select the name of the server when creating a case.

Only one server of each type can be a default server. The first server added of a particular type becomes the default. You can change the default server if needed.

To add a server:

On the Portal Home page, under Portal Management, click Cases and Servers.

In the navigation pane, click Servers.

Click Add.

In the Type list, select the server type.

Type a Name for the server. The server name can only be used once for each type of server. Different types of servers can use the same name.

Note: Do not start a server name with a number.

The following table describes the fields in the Add server dialog box. An asterisk indicates a mandatory field.
