Search for entity items

To display entity items instead of documents on the Documents page, you perform an advanced search for entity items.

When you search for entity items, you can search for values within the selected entity and within connected entities. For example, say that the evidence entity is connected to the collection entity. To search for all evidence entity items, you can select the evidence entity, and then perform a search for Evidence ID has a value. To search for all of the evidence items that are connected to collection COLLECTION-0001, you can select the evidence entity, and then perform a search for Collection ID is COLLECTION-0001.

Note: Searching for entity items is similar to performing an advanced search for documents, although the options that are available for entity items and documents may vary. For information about how to search for documents, see Perform an advanced search.

To search for entity items:

On the Case Home page, click Search.

In the Show results within this entity list, select the name of an entity.

In the Select a field box, enter the entity field that you want to search for. You can search for fields that belong to the selected entity, and for fields that belong to entities that are connected to the selected entity.

To select an operator, type a few characters in the Select an operator box, or click the arrow to scroll through the list. The operators that are available depend on the field.

If a field requires a value, in the Select a value box, do one of the following to enter the value. The options that are available depend on the Select a field selection.

Type the value in the box.

Click the arrow to scroll through a list of values.

Click the Calendar button to select a date.

Press Enter or click outside the box.

The search criteria appear on the Search page.

To add search criteria, hover over an existing search clause, and then click the Add new clause button. Repeat the previous steps.

Use the arrows to increase or decrease an indent. Indenting criteria creates a group. Decreasing the indent removes the criteria from a group or deletes the group.

To switch between the and, or, and not operators between clauses, click the operator name.

Note: Your administrator must enable the NOT operator.

To run the search, click the Search button in the lower right.

Search results appear on the Documents page.
