Code documents to binders in the Code pane

You can add documents to a binder. For example, you can group related documents together for easier review and coding.

You can perform the following tasks to code documents to binders:

Create a binder

Add a single document to a binder

Add multiple documents to a binder

Add a binder description

Remove a single document from a binder

Remove multiple documents from a binder

The permissions set by your administrator determine access to this feature.

Create a binder

Group members can create private binders. A private binder is available only to the user who created it.

Group leaders can create shared binders. A shared binder is available to all users in the same group.

To create a binder:

In the Code pane, click the Code multiple documents button.

Click Binders.

Click New.

Type a Name and Description.

Tip: To make it easier for other users to locate binders, you can establish naming conventions for binders. For example, you can include a prefix to sort binders, or include the date that the binder was last updated. If you create binders based on the results of a search, you can add the search criteria as the binder description so that other users will know what search to run when they want to add new documents to the binder.

If you have permissions, from the Type list, select the type of binder to create:

Private: Creates a private binder. In the Owned by list, select an owner for the binder.

Shared: Creates a shared binder. To create a mobile binder, select the Mobile Binder check box. For information about mobile binders, see Work with mobile binders.

Click Create.

Add a document to a binder

If you are coding a document based on a coding template that includes binders, you can add a single document to a binder.

To add a single document to a binder:

Select the document that you want to code.

In the Code pane, click the Code single document button.

On the All Values menu, click a template name.

In the Binder row, click the value.

In the Find box, type the name of the binder, and then click Find.

Tip: To view all binders, click Find without typing any text in the Find box.

Drag the handle next to a binder to the Selected Binders area.

Click Save.

Add multiple documents to a binder

To add multiple documents to a binder:

Select the documents that you want to code.

In the Code pane, click the Code multiple documents button.

Click Binders.

In the Find box, type the name of the binder, and then click Find.

Tip: To view all binders, click Find without typing any text in the Find box.

Click the Coding Options button for the binder.

Select the Add check box.

Click Submit, and then click Close.

Add a binder description

You can add a description to a binder. For example, you can describe the purpose of the binder, the types of documents to include in the binder, and so on.

Tip: If you create a binder based on the results of a search, you can add the search criteria as the binder description so that other users will know what search to run when there are new documents to add to the binder.

To add or edit a binder description:

In the Code pane, click the Code multiple documents button.

Click Binders.

In the Find box, type the name of the binder, and then click Find.

Click a binder icon.

Type a description, and then click Save.

To view a binder description, click the binder icon.

Remove a single document from a binder

You can remove a single document from a binder.

To remove a single document from a binder:

Select the document that you want to code.

In the Code pane, click the Code single document button.

Note: For information about how to remove a document from a binder in the Conditional Coding pane, see Code documents in the Conditional Coding pane.

On the All Values menu, click a template name.

In the Binder row, click the value.

In the Selected Binders area, click the X next to the binder that you want to remove the document from.

Click Save.

Remove multiple documents from a binder

To remove multiple documents from a binder:

Select the documents that you want to code.

In the Code pane, click the Code multiple documents button.

In the Find box, type the name of the binder, and then click Find.

Click the Coding Options button for the binder.

Select the Delete check box.

Click Submit, and then click Close.
